Owning a Pizza Business

There are two ways to get a pizza business.  You can open your own restaurant, start from scratch, and hope you can build the clientele you need.  Your second option is to look at pizza businesses for sale.  If you are going for this secondary choice you will also have two methods of purchasing the business.   As with any type of business the pizza world will have chains, franchises, and privately owned businesses.  Chains are not sold to a private owner so that leaves out some of the more popular restaurants.  However, you still have the ability to purchase franchises or privately owned businesses.

For a privately owned pizza business you have to be in the right place at the right time.  If you want to own the pizza business you either have to move to the location or hope one near you is willing to sell.  You can find pizza businesses for sale online. Anyone with a business to sell can advertise using the online newspapers, special sites for selling businesses, and other options to sell their business. There is also the possibility that if you have enough money and offer the right price to the owner they will be willing to sell, even if they were not advertising their business.  It can be a little more difficult to find a privately owned pizza business in your area.

This is why franchising can be the best way to go.  A franchise is willing to sell almost anywhere as long as there is not a franchise in your area.  In other words when you buy the license on a franchise you will have an area where you can sell, and no other franchise of the same company can move in.  The franchise pizza business already has the marketing, brand recognition and business model for you to use.  The setup is a little easier than taking over another company.

In the United States there are a number of different pizza businesses for sale as franchises.  Some of the businesses will be available in certain markets.  For example Anthony’s Pizza is more of a Colorado franchise.  You will not find this business opportunity in other states.  On the other hand Papa Murphy’s Pizza, as a take and bake joint, is very popular throughout the United States. There are locations in Alaska, Washington, Colorado, and even places on the Eastern coast. 

San Gelato Cafe, Buck’s Pizza, Pizza Fusion, Meatballz, Marco’s Pizza, and Nick and Willy’s Pizza are all franchise companies you can purchase as a franchise.  The choice you make in pizza businesses will first depend on what franchise company is looking to open a new location, where the location is, and whether you feel the price is correct for the business. 

Starting a pizza business will require knowledge of making pizza dough, having a great sauce recipe, and the marketing.  Pizza in the United States is definitely a staple food item, so there is very little that can go wrong with opening up your own pizza place.
